Keep reading to learn more about if Wagmo is the best pet insurance choice for you and your furry friends.
Wagmo Pet Insurance Plans and Coverage
Wagmo offers one type of pet insurance plan, an emergency vet coverage plan, which helps with the costs of accidents and illnesses. It also offers three types of wellness plans.
Typically, you can expect to pay between $40 and $55 for dog insurance and $20 to $25 for cat insurance. Wagmo’s pet insurance plans all have a lifetime limit of $100,000 in claims over your pet’s lifetime. After $100,000 in claims, you will be on your own.
However, Wagmo points out that it’s extremely rare for a pet’s lifetime payout to exceed $50,000, so a lifetime limit of $100,000 gives you plenty of breathing room and is considered a generous pet insurance limit by most standards. Some providers offer unlimited lifetime limits. However, others may limit you to only $10,000 a year or $25,000 for your pet’s lifetime. As a whole, Wagmo’s lifetime limit is higher than most and competitive with many pet insurance providers.
However, we don’t love that Wagmo has an incident limit of $10,000. This means that you can’t be reimbursed for more than $10,000 for a single claim. In most cases, you probably won’t need this much. However, if you’re concerned about your pet having an expensive illness or incident, this may not be ideal for you.
Wagmo pet insurance will cover things like:
- Prescription medications
- Emergency care visits
- Hospital stays
- Virtual, in-home, or in-office care
- Surgeries
- X-rays
- Ultrasounds
- Chronic conditions
- Laboratory tests
- Cruciate ligament events (After six months)
- CT scans
- Cancer treatments (After 30 days)
- Congenital conditions
- Hereditary conditions
- Prosthetics and orthopedics
- Hip dysplasia (After 15 days)
- End of life veterinary care (euthanasia)
- Pet ambulance

Preventative Care Limits
With Wagmo, your preventative care plan starts immediately and will help with the costs of things like grooming, vaccinations, regular vet visits, and much more.
Wagmo offers three wellness plan options: its value plan, classic plan, and deluxe plan.
Wagmo’s value plan is $20 per month and helps with the cost of routine care, such as exam fees, vaccines, regular blood work, and fecal tests. The classic plan is $36 per month and covers everything the value plan does, along with an extra vaccination and urinalysis. It also provides $100 for flea/tick/heartworm preventatives and grooming costs.
Lastly, its deluxe plan, which is recommended for puppies and kittens, is available at $59 per month and includes everything in the other plans, along with an additional routine checkup and vaccination. You also get $200 for flea/tick/heartworm preventatives, extra grooming, and dental care. Its dental care coverage includes professional teeth cleaning, anesthesia, and an oral examination, which is a significant benefit for pet parents because many pet insurance providers don’t offer thorough dental coverage.
Preventative Care Limits

Coverage Exclusions
During our research, we found that Wagmo has strict bilateral coverage exclusions, meaning that if your pet already has a condition on one side of its body, like a cruciate ligament, then any other developed cruciate ligament on other limbs will be considered a pre-existing condition.
Wagmo will also not cover the following:
- Spaying/neutering procedures
- Prescription pet food
- Vitamins and supplements
- Boarding costs
- Hydrotherapy
- Dental surgeries
- Biohazard fees
- Training or obedience classes
- Cosmetic surgeries
- Breeding, pregnancy, or birth expenses

“We have the wellness plan for our pup. I submitted my claim for heartworm med reimbursement (which was super easy BTW) at 4:30 pm and was paid at 5:40 pm. AMAZING. Will recommend this plan to all of my pet parent friends.” —Kelly Cipri Stickelmaier, Facebook
“Deceptive business practices. Makes no sense to purchase a policy from a company who uses deceptive methods to deny legitimate claims. Horrible.” —Charles Bailey, Facebook
“Amazing wellness plan. Have had 3 claims already. They approved them all within 24 hours. The funds were in my bank the next morning.” —Daniel, TrustPilot reviewer
“I HIGHLY recommend WAGMO to any Pet Parent out there. If you’re like me, anytime your fur babies feel a little ill you want to make sure they are receiving the best preventive care but cost is always a lingering factor. With WAGMO, I don’t have to worry about hurting my pockets because they fulfilled all my claims. My fur baby was taken care of and mama was able to buy her little boy a treat! I will be renewing next year. So happy to be a part of the WAGverse! 🤗”

Our Methodology
Here at Quartz, our research team looks to examine all pet insurance policies and comes up with reviews based on:
- Coverage
- Plan options
- Cost
- Reputation
- Customer service
- Species available
- Wellness benefits
We’ve created a 5-star rating system to score pet insurance brands based on a 100-point scale. To develop a list of the best pet insurance plans, we looked into plans, rating coverage, claims handling, reimbursements, deductibles, and limitations.
Each factor is weighted differently based on the following factors:
- Monthly Pricing (25 points): How each pet insurance company charges for their plans is a crucial part of the decision-making process of the customer. Affordable rates and comprehensive coverage are the defining characteristics of providing the best pet insurance.
- Coverage (20 points): We scored companies based on the treatments and procedures they cover. Providers offering broader coverage and more unique treatments received more points. Pet insurance policies are not offered by all companies for older pets. Providers who have an age limit on the pets they cover were deducted points.
- Plans (15 points): Pet insurance providers offer accident-and-illness plans, accident-only plans, wellness add-ons, and pet preventive care add-ons, so customers can choose the right plan for their pets. We also factored in costs to achieve the most comprehensible review for your pet’s needs.
- Customization Options (10 points): You can ensure your pet only gets what they need by customizing your policy. A higher score was earned by providers who offered a greater range of annual limits, deductibles, and reimbursement rates.
- Customer Service (10 points): We scored companies based on their website accessibility and usability, mobile apps, and grating points to companies with the most customer experience options.
- Industry Reputation (10 points): We assessed each company’s industry reputation by reviewing up-to-date BBB ratings and accreditation information, as well as their years of experience in the industry.
- Waiting Periods (10 points): Companies with shorter accident and illness waiting periods scored higher than companies with longer waiting periods.
Our team revisits each company’s information at the end of every month to make updates and ensure the information is as accurate as possible.
