Mercury Insurance Group was founded in 1961 and today offers various insurance policies including homeowners and business insurance. However, for drivers looking for added peace of mind on the road, you can also purchase a Mercury extended warranty, known as a Mercury Mechanical Protection plan.

Mercury Extended Car Warranty Coverage
There are three Mercury extended warranty plans for new and used cars: Ultimate, Deluxe and Select. Mercury doesn’t advertise a maximum term limit for its coverage, but when we called to get a quote for a vehicle that was 8 years old and had 64,000 miles on it, we were offered a plan to cover us an additional 4 years/61,000 miles, or until the vehicle was a total of 12 years old and had 125,000 miles on the odometer.
Here’s an overview of each mechanical protection plan:
- Ultimate: A bumper-to-bumper extended warranty that includes nearly all mechanical vehicle parts, minus a short list of exclusions
- Deluxe: Includes all components covered under the lower-tier Select, plus a few more parts within each category as well as the vehicle’s fuel system, high-tech electronics, suspension, steering and hybrid/electric systems
- Select: Covers just parts of your engine, transmission, transfer case, transaxle, brake system, electrical system and air conditioning
If you sell your vehicle to another owner after purchasing a Mercury extended warranty, the coverage is transferable to a secondary owner for a small fee. You also can cancel your contract at any time. However, any cancellations made 60 days after purchase will be refunded on a prorated basis.
What’s Not Included in the Mercury Extended Warranty?
With any extended warranty, certain exclusions apply. Mercury extended warranty coverage does not cover:
- Routine maintenance services
- Non-mechanical items such as vehicle trim and upholstery
- Normal wear-and-tear items like batteries and brake pads
- Damage resulting from a lack of maintenance
- Damage resulting from misuse or abuse
